Catalonia received 17% of all tourism revenue in January.

Foreign tourists spent a total of 2.3 billion euros in Spain in January of this year, 6.2% less than in January 2005, according to the ministry of industry, tourism and commerce. The ministry attributed the decline to a shorter average stay by tourists in Spain. Tourists spent an average of 80 euro a day and stayed for an average of 11 days. The Canary Islands received 37% of foreign tourism in Spain for total revenues of 844 million, followed by Catalonia, which received 17% of the total for 381 million.
