Bars and restaurants fear more crime against tourists.
An increasing number of bars and restaurants located in tourist zones throughout Barcelona have started to hire private security firms: many are becoming worried over robberies undertaken by juvenile gangs. Roaming gangs of Romanian children are said to be partly to blame for the incidents, which take place. Daniel Llobera, executive director of Grup Cacheiro, which has a chain of ten establishments in the city, says that recent measures have reduced, temporarily at least, the amount of crime occurring. But he warned that when more tourists arrive, there are also more delinquents. The citys bar and catering guild, the Gremi de Restauraci de Barcelona, has said that some of its members have opted to reinforce the perimeter surrounding their terraces within the intent that robberies and petty crimes on tourists and other customers are reduced.
<br>Security firms warn that particular hotspots for crime are found in the localities of Rambla Catalunya, Born, Passeig de Gro cia and the Rambla de Santa MoČnica. The Port Olimpic area is also a security concern, as it is throughout the year.
