New trains to be introduced at line 2.
It is known that during the recent years the number of passengers at the Barcelona underground has increased greatly – from 600 to 900 million a year. This means that the underground becomes more popular and to make it safer and more pleasant to use, there was a decision to introduce new trains at the line 2. These will be series 9000 trains, which are to be introduced in September. The trains may function with or without driver and have a capacity for up to 959 people, 112 seated and 845 standing. Also, among the advantages of these trains are the special zones for wheelchairs, for people with reduced mobility, as well as space for bicycles. The trains have five carriages linked by a passageway, air-conditioning, and interior soundproofing. Moreover, the line 2 will be further improved. Thus, there will be a significant improvement in the frequency of circulation, with trains passing every 2.5 minutes. Also, the line will be extended to Prat airport.
