Catalan language courses for immigrants
Recently, as a result of the agreement between the Board for Normalització Lingüística and Barcelona Activa, there were special Catalan language courses organized in Barcelona. The courses are not for everyone, but for immigrants and non-Catalan speakers who take part in work-training programmes (including, for example, Programme for work insertion and for training in administrative tasks) at Barcelona Activa and are actually aimed to develop this programme and make it more effective. These free courses are already functioning, with 48 people taking part in them (mainly the immigrants). Of course, the basic level of language is taken into consideration, and later, there will also be higher level studies organized to fulfill the needs of more qualified students. The agreement to organize the courses was signed by the president of Barcelona Activa, and councillor for Work and Innovation, Maravillas Rojo, and by the councillor for Culture and president of the council for the Centre de Normalització Lingüística of Barcelona, Carles Martí.
