All Saints Day
November 1 is the Barcelona national holiday called “All Saints Day” that is celebrated to commemorate the loved ones who are not longer with us. Another symbolic meaning of the holiday is nature’s changing cycle, when autumn is replaced with winter and nature around us is changing. This time of the year is celebrated with the tradition of eating chestnuts and almond cakes. For instance, this year the bakers of the Gremi Provincial de Pastisseria de Barcelona are preparing for lots of customers who will buy approximately 1,610,000 kilos of panellets (almond cakes). In order to try this tasty food, you can participate in "castanyades" (chestnut parties) that will take place in various districts. Also, there will be more public transport going to and from the cemeteries up to November 5, as people will want to visit the graves where their ancestors and relatives are buried.
