Fare changes in public transport system starting from January 1st

The administration body of the metropolitan transport authority (ATM) has recently announced that there will be several changes introduced in the payment system starting from January 1st, 2007. According to ATM, the public fares for ATM tickets will increase 3.56 % (including the process for single tickets) in the area that is covered by Sistema Tarifari Integrat. All in all, the cost for public transport will probably be 0.65 Euros now (including the VAT) – that is 2 cents more than the increase that occurred in 2006. As for the single ticket, it will cost 1.25 euros next year while the ten-journey ticket (or T-10) will cost as much as 6.90 euros now. Another change considers the age limits – the age limit for the T-Jove tariff will be extended now to 25 years. Those who want to buy this kind of ticket have to register and get a special card that proves they are university or school students. This was announced by the Consell d'Administració, the administration body of ATM last year. The previous year, the age limit was increased from 21 to 23 years old.
