More hotel stays in Catalan capital.

The tourism sector of the Barcelona economy is maintaining a good rate of growth: during 2005, more than five million tourists stayed in Barcelona hotel accommodation, an 11% increase in stays when compared to the year previous. The number of cruise ship visitors to the Catalan capital also increased by 22%. Around 60% of the five million tourists staying in Barcelona hotels traveled to the city in order to spend a few nights there. In spite of the data, Turismo de Barcelona vice-president Jordi Portabella warned that the rate of tourism growth in Barcelona would soft over the coming years. There have been 11m nighttime stays in Barcelona during 2005, 8% more than what was registered for last year. The rest stayed for business reasons or to attend international exhibitions, trade fairs or congresses. Portabella also applauded the beneficial equilibrium of both types of stay, insisting Barcelona tourism is of a high quality. <br>
