VW boss is in Barcelona.
Bosses at German car manufacturers Volkswagen told Industry minister at 16 January, that have now plans to sell Seat and that they remain committed to their Spanish manufacturing operation. Mr Montilla was heading up a Spanish delegation visiting VW headquarters in Wolfsburg to discuss the future of the Seat brand. Following extensive trade union protest action, only 660 Seat workers in Cataluña were laid off last month, substantially fewer than the 1,346 originally announced. Seat employs around 16,000 Spanish workers, mostly at their main factory in Martorell (Barcelona), where models such as the Altea, León and Toledo are made. VW president said that falling European sales mean that "we need to look very closely at costs, productivity and competitiveness," and asked the Spanish government to support the company's attempts to improve infrastructure, logistics and increase investment in R&D.
